On June 24, 2025, Cryptopolitan reported that Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport has introduced AED stablecoin payments for taxi services, and Tawasul Transport, operating under the Department, now accepts these payments using the AEC Wallet and AE Coin (AEC). This development marks a significant step in integrating digital currencies into everyday transactions in Abu Dhabi.
Also on June 24, CryptoRank.io reported its corroboration of the AED stablecoin payment adoption for taxis, citing Cryptopolitan's report. A live payment transaction for a taxi ride, using the AEC Wallet and AE Coin, was successfully conducted, demonstrating the new payment method's viability and efficiency.
Meanwhile, Air Arabia has also adopted the AE Coin stablecoin for flight bookings. On May 27, 2025, Finance World reported that Air Arabia partnered with Mbank, a collaboration enabling the airline to accept AE Coin stablecoin payments. As a result, Air Arabia became the first airline in the region to accept cryptocurrency for booking flights. Khaleej Times had initially reported this information on May 26. Subsequently, The Paypers and TBO Academy also reported on this development.
This initiative allows customers to book their flights using the AEC Wallet application developed by Mbank and supports the UAE’s Digital Government Strategy 2025. Furthermore, it aligns with the broader goal of integrating digital currencies into various sectors to enhance operational efficiency and customer convenience.
According to CoinMarketCap on June 24, at 12:00 UTC, the latest market data showed AE Coin (AEC) trading at $0.98, reflecting a 1.5% change in its 24-hour trading volume.
