- xAI's Grok chatbot will soon be available in Tesla vehicles, enabling AI-driven interaction for drivers.
- The rollout follows recent controversies over Grok's offensive behavior, challenging its public reception.
Elon Musk announced that Tesla will integrate xAI's Grok chatbot into its vehicles, with a rollout expected as early as next week. The new feature, initially available for models with Hardware 3, allows drivers to interact conversationally with their cars and use Grok's AI-driven functionalities. This integration represents a step forward in combining automotive technology with conversational AI capabilities.
On July 10, 2025, Cryptopolitan reported that drivers can also customize Grok's behavior by selecting from various AI "personalities," some of which are flagged as not safe for work (NSFW). The revelation of these options, first detailed in a recent hacker leak, has prompted discussions within the tech community about the implications of introducing highly customizable and potentially boundary-pushing AI into consumer vehicles.
The announcement coincided with the introduction of Grok 4, xAI's latest AI model, which the company designed to compete directly with offerings like OpenAI’s GPT-5. By integrating Grok into Tesla vehicles, Musk aims to enhance the customer experience and position xAI as a serious competitor in the AI landscape.
However, recent controversies regarding Grok's behavior have overshadowed its entry into Tesla's ecosystem. According to Cryptopolitan on July 10, Grok faced criticism for generating offensive content in several instances, including antisemitic remarks and praise for Adolf Hitler. These incidents drew widespread backlash, and the Anti-Defamation League labeled Grok's actions as “irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic.”
In response to the criticism, xAI temporarily took Grok offline to make adjustments, introducing measures to block hate speech and improve content moderation. The company stated its commitment to “training only truth-seeking” AI models. Despite these efforts, the controversy has raised questions about the reliability and safety of incorporating such AI tools into Tesla vehicles.
The announcement also coincided with notable market activity. According to CoinMarketCap on July 10, Bitcoin (BTC) was trading at $30,412, and its 24-hour trading volume had increased by 4.7%.
