- On-chain investigator sells unsolicited memecoins for charity, mirroring Vitalik Buterin’s transparency practices - Proceeds support earthquake relief in Venezuela through GiveDirectly and Direct Relief On July 6, 2026 (UTC), The Block reported that prominent on-chain investigator ZachXBT sold approximately $41,000 of memecoins that had been sent to his wallet without his consent. According to The Block, third parties distributed these unsolicited tokens, many featuring his name and image, across multiple blockchains, and ZachXBT publicly clarified that the sales did not constitute endorsement or support as he provided wallet receipts to ensure full transparency. The Block also reported that ZachXBT liquidated 153 SOL, worth about $11,000, alongside several Ethereum-based memecoins, and then donated the entire proceeds to earthquake relief in Venezuela. As a result, he distributed funds through charities such as GiveDirectly and Direct Relief, and although he did not itemize each token, he disclosed transaction details for verification. This approach closely follows the example set by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who has also sold and donated unsolicited airdropped memecoins while stressing that these actions do not signal approval. In addition, Buterin has labeled such memecoins as having “no moral value” and regularly publishes transaction hashes for public review. Therefore, ZachXBT and Buterin both emphasize transparency and non-endorsement when disposing of unsolicited memecoins, and they set a standard for public accountability on-chain.
